How the OZ 2.0 tracker works

The OZ 2.0 nomination tracker, every state page and the downloadable dataset (CSV, JSON) read from one file, so they cannot disagree. Data as of October 12, 2026; the underlying data last changed October 12, 2026.

What we track

For each of the 50 states, the District of Columbia and territories that have filed, we record whether the governor (State CEO) has submitted an Opportunity Zone 2.0 nomination slate to the U.S. Treasury. For filed states we record the number of nominated census tracts, the date the filing was announced and the primary source. For every state we show eligible tracts and the nomination cap.

How we verify

Dating and update cadence

We check state and Treasury sources regularly, typically each business day, during the nomination and certification period. The "Data as of" date is the day (Eastern Time) the tracker was last checked and rebuilt. Each filed state carries the date of its own filing or announcement. Sitemap lastmod dates reflect when the underlying content actually changed.

Current (2018) Opportunity Zone status on the map

The map address card shows whether a tract is a current Opportunity Zone (the 2018 designations, which run through December 31, 2026). Source: the CDFI Fund's Designated Qualified Opportunity Zones list (updated December 14, 2018; downloaded October 11, 2026), 8,764 tracts including territories. The CDFI Fund notes that this spreadsheet is not the official list; the official list is published in the Internal Revenue Bulletin (IRS Notices 2018-48 and 2019-42).

The 2018 list uses 2010-census tract numbers, while OZ 2.0 and our map use 2020 tracts. 7,430 of the 8,764 designated tract numbers are unchanged in 2020. To handle the rest we use the Census Bureau's 2020-to-2010 tract relationship file: a 2020 tract counts as a current OZ when at least 95% of its land area lies inside designated 2010 tracts (9,776 tracts), and as "partly" in a current OZ when 5–95% does (298 tracts). Below 5% we show "not a current Opportunity Zone". If a tract can't be matched to the crosswalk, the card says so instead of answering no. For a partly-covered tract, check the exact address.
